Office Visits – Orthodontics

Once you decide it is time for your child to see the orthodontist—which should be on or around their seventh birthday—you will want to know what to expect. Many people feel intimidated by orthodontic care, especially if they never received it when they were a child themselves. But do not worry; here at River View Dental Specialists, we make certain your experience is an excellent one. Below is a quick rundown of what to expect from your visits with us.

The Complimentary Consultation

When you come to see us for the first time, it is risk-free; that is because we offer complimentary consultations. If you decide we are the right fit for your child, you can set up more appointments and work with our billing department to maximize your insurance benefits, secure financing, and more. Things you can expect from this first appointment are:

  • A review of dental and medical history
  • A comprehensive oral exam, including x-rays
  • The creation of a customized treatment plan
  • In-depth discussion of financial information, insurance coverage, and payment methods

During this time, we will explain everything about treatment to you and give you time to ask questions.

After the Initial Appointment

Once the initial appointment is complete, you will either find that your child needs orthodontic treatment or does not. If it is needed, we will schedule the second appointment. At this meeting, we will complete the records needed to begin treatment, such as additional x-rays, photos, scans, and impressions. The next appointment after this will be when treatment actually begins.

Scheduling Future Appointments

At the end of each appointment, we will let you know how soon we need to see your child again. In some cases, it will be in the next four weeks, while for others, it will be in eight weeks or more. Most appointments will take 20-40 minutes to complete. Our team works hard to make your appointments fit your schedule, but sometimes school and work will need to be missed. Please call if you are running late or need to reschedule.

Dental Appointments

Our practice offers both orthodontic and dental care. However, even if your child is seeing us for orthodontics, you will still need to schedule dental appointments. These address different issues, so separate appointments are needed. However, we can schedule them one right after the other to make things easier for you.
